During the NBA offseason, the Boston Celtics were intent on upgrading their roster after the team could not get the best of the eighth-seeded Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Even though the Heat seemed like the team of destiny in the East last year, as they made easy work of every opponent in the NBA playoffs regardless of seeding, the Celtics were expected to go the distance and potentially win it all.

That said, the team made sure to make the necessary changes during the summer to get back to the NBA Finals and win what would be the team’s 18th NBA title, which would put them back in the lead for the most in the league history ahead of the arch-rival Los Angeles Lakers.

Fortunately for Boston, the moves to acquire Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday have turned out to be game-changers, with the Celtics sitting atop the East with a league-best record of 43-12.

With the Celtics firing on all cylinders and looking like the best all-around team in the league right now, ESPN’s Zach Lowe says it would be disastrous if Boston doesn’t at least reach the Finals via NBA on ESPN.

“If the Celtics are healthy and these other teams are still a mess in April, anything short of a Finals appearance for them is a flat-out disaster,” Lowe said.

Lowe is right on the money with his assessment, as the team will be clueless as to what to do next if they can’t make the Finals.

However, Boston does have some stiff competition in the East, and whoever represents the Western Conference will be a formidable opponent, so it won’t be easy by any means to live up to expectations.
