The Boston Celtics have the NBA’s best record, and many feel they’re the best overall team in basketball right now.
Jayson Tatum is leading the way by averaging 27.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists a game, yet he isn’t one of the leading candidates for the regular-season MVP award.
Some have been waiting for him to become one of the league’s leading stars, and ESPN’s Mike Greenberg said there is a simple way Tatum can be the face of the league — by leading the Celtics to a world championship, via ESPN Radio.

Over the last couple of years, the Celtics have been pegged as the favorites or at least one of the favorites to win it all, but they keep falling short when it matters most.
In 2022, they reached the NBA Finals and took a 2-1 series lead over the Golden State Warriors, but Tatum played poorly throughout the series, and Boston lost in six games.
Last season, Boston came back from a 3-0 deficit in the Eastern Conference Finals to force a Game 7 at home, and it looked like they had every advantage in their favor for that contest.
But they scored just 84 points and got blown out by the Miami Heat, and many pointed the finger at Tatum, who scored just 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting.
Being a Celtics superstar is about much more than scoring lots of points — it’s also about being a true leader, not to mention a true winner.
It’s a franchise that has won 17 championships, and winning it all is the only real currency for it, especially when it comes to measuring the greatness of its best players.
