The Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James got a good look at the future of the NBA when they took on the San Antonio Spurs on Friday.

The Lakers managed to beat the Spurs, 123-118, in a fun game that featured some of the best No. 1 overall picks in NBA history.

Anthony Davis and James led the way for Los Angeles, while Victor Wembanyama dominated both ends of the floor for San Antonio.

Wembanyama has been rapidly improving since making his debut, and he is going to be a problem for years to come, assuming he stays healthy.

Guiding him along the way is head coach Gregg Popovich, who remains one of the best in the league despite his age.

After the game, James shouted out Popovich and expressed his love for the Spurs head coach via his personal Twitter account.

“Love you Pop!!” James tweeted.

James and Popovich have competed against each other for decades now, and there’s a great deal of mutual respect between the two.

Popovich got the best of James in two NBA Finals, though the latter got his revenge when the Miami Heat beat San Antonio in the 2013 NBA Finals.

The two are the last remaining figures of a golden age of basketball, though the two have proven they have something left in the tank.

James has the Lakers dreaming of at least one more NBA title, while Wembanyama can extend Popovich’s career and get the Spurs back into title contention sooner rather than later.

Until they retire, fans should appreciate every time James and Popovich face off against one another.
