The Los Angeles Lakers made the rounds for the wrong reasons.

LeBron James didn’t hold back on the referees after they only shot eight free throws in their loss to the Phoenix Suns.

James tried to use the loss to dismiss the narrative of the referees giving the Lakers a helping hand, stating that they’re a driving team, so it’s only normal that they get a lot of free throws.

However, going to the line just eight times wasn’t the reason they lost to the Suns.

At least, not according to Skip Bayless.

Recently, the controversial pundit put the Lakers on blast for their lack of defensive prowess (via Undisputed).

They allowed 45 points in the first quarter of Sunday’s matchup, which Bayless deemed ‘inexcusable.’

The Lakers have the potential to be one of the best defensive teams in the game, and they showed it during the In-Season Tournament.

They have the personnel to be a defensive nightmare in switches, boasting plenty of length and versatile defenders, but it seems like their defensive intensity goes on and off.

You never know what version of the Lakers you’re going to come across, and that’s a major issue as they look to make a postseason run.

All teams should stay true to what they do best, and the Lakers need to keep making the most of their physicality and their drives.

But they cannot count on shooting 30 free throws a game to have a chance to win.
