Defense in the NBA has taken a backseat to high-powered offenses over the past couple of decades or so, with the number of great defenders drastically dropping during that time.

Although defense doesn’t get played the way it used to be played in the NBA, there are still some great defenders in the league, with veteran forward Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors being one of them.

With Green being one of the few great defenders in the league today, he knows what it takes to play well on that end of the basketball floor and recently named which players in the league he believes are underrated defensively.

On the Sloane Knows podcast, Green named Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis as one of the most underrated defenders in the NBA today.

“I think the second one is Anthony Davis,” Green said. “AD can switch onto a guard and keep a guard in front of him if he needs to. He can play in the drop, and he’s one of the most devastating players playing a guard or pick-and-roll in the drop. He’s a versatile defender.”

Although Davis is always in the conversation for NBA Defensive Player of the Year on an annual basis, the perennial All-Star is known more for his offensive prowess on the basketball floor.

This year, Davis might come up short in the running for the regular-season award, with Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves being the favorite to win it for what would be the fourth time.
