Larry Bird is an NBA icon and easily one of the biggest names in the history of basketball.
So when he recently called Klay Thompson “an incredible shooter” and sat in awe of his talents, the Golden State Warriors player took note.
Speaking with Sam Amick of The Athletic, Thompson spoke about why the compliments from Bird mean so much to him.
“I’ll put that (compliment) in the same category as when Kobe called me and Steph great players with that killer instinct (in 2016). It means the world to me,” Thompson said.

It’s not every day that current NBA players receive such praise from legends like Bird.
It is a huge honor and a sign that Thompson is doing something right and that people, including incredibly powerful and influential people, are noticing.
Bird recently spoke with Bob Costas about some of the legendary games that Thompson played in and seemed dumbfounded by how he was able to be so impactful on the court.
That sort of praise is sure to inspire Thompson and encourage him to keep playing hard, especially right now.
This season has been full of troubles for Thompson, who is averaging 17.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per season.
His numbers across the board have sunk to career lows and Thompson has been moved to the bench for the first time since his rookie year.
No matter how this season goes, nothing can take away all of the amazing work that Thompson has done for the team over the years.
Even if he never rebounds from this current rough patch, he will forever be one-half of the Splash Brothers and a major part of Warriors history.
