After a disappointing first half of the 2022-23 NBA regular season, Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka decided to shake things up ahead of the NBA trade deadline, with the team making some moves to help right the ship.
Ultimately, the Lakers acquired Malik Beasley, D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Rui Hachimura ahead of the trade deadline, which resulted in the kind of success the team was looking for with the playoffs on the horizon.
With a little more than 20 games left in the regular season, the Lakers will need another strong finish in order to make the postseason and potentially make another deep run in the playoffs.
This time around, the team didn’t make any drastic moves, even though Los Angeles was linked to another list of big-name players before the deadline earlier this month.
Although LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been able to stay relatively healthy this season, the results haven’t been there, and former NBA player Channing Frye believes this team doesn’t have a chance at contending this year via Run It Back.
“With the Lakers? No, that’s a zero,” Frye said. “That’s a zero.”

With the Lakers unable to make a move before the deadline this year, the team was able to bring in veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie on the buyout market.
Unfortunately, Dinwiddie hasn’t made an impact for the Lakers off the bench and has so far been a regrettable move for Los Angeles.
As if things weren’t already trending in the wrong direction, the Lakers are facing a brutal schedule to finish out the regular season, and unless they turn it on, the NBA playoffs might become out of reach.
