The 2023-24 NBA season has reached that point in the campaign where the favorites to win individual awards have started to form.

There are several individual honors that players can take home at the end of the season, but the NBA Rookie of the Year is one of the few honors that young stars have their eyes on.

Speaking of which, the number one overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama, was touted to win the award even before the season started.

However, Oklahoma City Thunder star Chet Holmgren has maintained his case for the honor.

Despite Holmgren having an excellent season, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green recently gave one reason why Wembanyama should win the race, via The Volume on Twitter.

“I just can’t agree with second-year guys winning Rookie of the Year,” Green said.

While Wembanyama is playing the first season of his NBA career, Holmgren is technically a sophomore player this year.

Holmgren was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft but didn’t make his NBA debut because of missing the entire season due to an injury.

As a result, Holmgren is eligible to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award in the 2023-24 season.

However, Green is among many who believe that a second-year player shouldn’t win the honor.

Well, even if Holmgren is eligible to win the award, Wembanyama is undoubtedly outplaying him in most categories.

The Spurs rookie has averaged 20.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, while Holmgren has put up 17.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game for the Thunder.
