The Denver Broncos are coming off a disappointing season in Sean Payton’s first year.

Changes are almost always a certainty after these kinds of seasons.

With this in mind, the Broncos are making a big change.

The Denver Broncos have released All-Pro Safety Justin Simmons according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The move clears 18.25 million against the cap.

This is the second time in the last couple of days that Denver’s front office has decided to part ways with a notable player.

Quarterback Russell Wilson was informed that he will be released at the start of the new league year as well, leaving an 85 million dead cap charge behind him.

Having Simmons’ 18.25 million added back to their salary cap pool lessens the blow a bit.

Releasing Simmons is a risky proposition.

He still is one of the best safeties in the league.

In 2023, Simmons posted 70 combined tackles, three interceptions, and one sack.

Paying 18.25 million for a safety is a hard pill to swallow, but Simmons had shown his worthiness to be among the highest paid in the league at his position.

Simmons will now become one of the league’s most sought after players in free agency.

Although he’s 30 years old, Simmons could make a huge difference on any team in need at the position.
