The Denver Broncos were forced to make a tough decision.
Justin Simmons will no longer be at Mile High, and it all had to do with the salary cap.
As they are about to eat up to $85 million in dead money over the next couple of years because of Russell Wilson’s release — the largest dead cap hit of all time — they had no choice but to part ways with Simmons.
This move saves them $14.5 million against the cap, and makes the 30-year-old one of the most sought-after free agents in the league.
That’s why, as much as he wanted to go on a full rant, fellow star Tyrann Mathieu minced his words on social media.
The New Orleans Saints star stated that he wouldn’t speak his mind because he knows Simmons — who he deemed his favorite safety — is a pro’s pro, so he knows he’s going to land on his feet right away.
I want to go on a rant because my favorite safety got released but he’s a pro’s pro & one of the best in the game. He will land on his feet!

He’s right on point.
The 30-year-old has been a multi-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro member, and he led the league in interceptions just a couple of years ago.
There should be no shortage of teams lining up to make a run at Simmons.
He’s always been known for his production, but he’s also a beloved veteran and strong locker room presence, and plenty of teams would be lucky to have him.
He’s outplayed all expectations as a third-round pick, and with multiple squads looking to revamp their secondary defense, it shouldn’t take long before we see him in new threads after eight years in Denver.
