Tiki Barber Is Not Happy With Recent Saquon Barkley Rumor

After he and the New York Giants were only able to agree to a one-year contract last offseason, veteran running back Saquon Barkley is set to become a free agent when the new league year begins for the NFL next Wednesday.

Unlike in 2023, the Giants opted not to use the franchise tag on Barkley this year, so unless the team is able to re-sign the running back before next Wednesday, he will enter the free-agent market for the first time in his NFL career.

If he doesn’t return to New York, the Philadelphia Eagles have been suggested as one of the rumored landing spots for Barkley this year.

Former Giants running back Tiki Barber recently found out about this rumor and made it very clear that he would not be happy with Barkley signing with one of New York’s biggest rivals (via SPORTSRADIO 94WIP on Twitter).

“The fact that Saquon would even contemplate going to play for that team in Philadelphia is insulting to his Giant history and legacy.”

Former players being upset about guys signing with a team’s division rival is nothing new, so these aren’t exactly surprising comments from Barber.

However, the NFL is much different when it comes to running backs compared to when Barber used to play.

Running backs are currently viewed by most teams around the league as very expendable, so if the Eagles are going to give Barkley the best offer this offseason, he’s probably going to take it.

Giants fans would definitely hate to see the team’s former first-round pick in a Philadelphia uniform, but thanks to the current state of running backs in the NFL, he might not have much of a choice if he wants to continue to play in the league.
