The Denver Broncos made history recently when they decided to cut Russell Wilson and eat an NFL-record $85 million in dead cap money.

Wilson now enters free agency for the first time in his career during a time when plenty of teams are in the market for a new quarterback.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of those teams, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has reported that their interest in Russell Wilson is “quite real.”

The Steelers got just 13 touchdown passes from Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph last season, yet somehow won 10 games and made the playoffs.

Sadly, that total topped the previous season, where Pickett and Trubisky combined for only 11 touchdowns.

Given those numbers, it’s obvious why the Steelers would be interested in bringing in a new quarterback, and a veteran like Wilson would make a lot of sense.

Any team that signs Wilson also has the benefit of likely not having to pay him much.

Wilson has been rumored to be open to playing on the veteran’s minimum $1.21 million salary since the Broncos still owe him $39 million regardless for 2024.

Wilson is coming off a solid statistical season where he put up 26 touchdowns and just eight interceptions before getting benched after 15 games.

It was a big improvement over his first year in Denver, but he still failed to meet lofty expectations and will now be searching for his third home at age 35.

It’s easy to envision Wilson paired with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

This could be the career revitalization he needs.
