Midway through the 2023 season, All-Pro safety Kevin Byard was sent to the Philadelphia Eagles as part of a trade made by the Tennessee Titans.
Byard had previously spent his entire NFL career with the Titans, but after the team hired a new general manager in 2023, they clearly wanted to move forward without him.
In his 10 games with the Eagles this past season, Byard put up solid numbers, but his performance wasn’t enough to prevent Philadelphia from releasing him earlier this month.
Luckily for the veteran safety, it didn’t take him long to find a new job, as CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson reported on Sunday that he has agreed to a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears.

In 2023, the Bears’ defense took some steps in the right direction as they went from ranking 32nd in the NFL in points allowed in 2022 to 20th in the same category this past season.
Byard’s addition should certainly help Chicago make even more improvements on the defensive side of the ball during the 2024 campaign.
With the Titans and Eagles in 2023, the veteran safety accumulated 122 tackles, three pass breakups, one interception, and one fumble recovery.
Byard has been in the league since 2016, when Tennessee used a third-round pick on him in that year’s NFL Draft.
During his first seven seasons in the league as a member of the Titans, he was voted to a pair of Pro Bowls, and he was a two-time First-Team All-Pro.
Even though he’ll be 31 in August, the Bears are hoping he can still play at a high level to help their defense potentially rank among the best units in the NFL in 2024.
