After spending the last six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins could potentially wind up with a new home this year.
Cousins is currently scheduled to become a free agent when the new league year begins on Wednesday, but the Vikings could still work out a new contract with him before then.
Whether Cousins chooses to re-sign with Minnesota or test the waters in free agency this offseason seems to be the quarterback’s decision, and according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, that decision is expected to be known by Sunday night.

Cousins has been in the league since he was selected by Washington with a fourth-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
He joined the Vikings during the 2018 offseason as a free agent, and he’s been the team’s starting quarterback ever since.
Ever since Minnesota hired a new head coach and general manager in 2022, many have speculated that Cousins’ time with the franchise is likely nearing the end.
However, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah have both recently expressed their desire for the veteran quarterback to return to the team this year and not sign with someone else this offseason.
Despite putting up some impressive numbers during his tenure with Minnesota, Cousins will be 36 in August, and he’s coming off of a 2023 season that was cut short in Week 8 after he tore his Achilles.
Whether he likes it or not, this will likely have a significant impact on the amount of money he will be able to get in his next contract.
Luckily, we should be getting some answers about his future very soon.
