The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new quarterback.

Late on Sunday, they reached an agreement with Russell Wilson, who took to Twitter to share the news and his excitement about it.

The Steelers moved promptly to get a deal done with the former Super Bowl champion, who could’ve found a new home someplace else.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Wilson was also open to joining the Las Vegas Raiders or New England Patriots if they were interested in him.

I’m told if Russell Wilson didn’t land with the Steelers he was open to playing for teams like the Raiders and Patriots, if they were interested. Wilson moves on while Denver searches for their next QB to add to the roster. https://t.co/nc1utl63H3

Playing for the Raiders would’ve given him a chance to beat the Denver Broncos twice a year, and he could’ve also been the next player to try and carry Tom Brady’s torch in Foxboro.

Now, he’s going to get a fresh start with a team that has been held back by subpar quarterback play for way too long.

Notably, he’s going to be pressured by Kenny Pickett, who was expected to be the Steelers’ starter this season despite his well-documented struggles, and that’s likely to bring the best out of him.

Likewise, he’s going to be the mentor and veteran presence that Pickett really needs to find his stride, if ever.

Whatever the case, the Steelers should be a much better team next season.

They didn’t need a superstar at the QB position, they just needed someone who could take care of the football, extend some plays, and keep the chains in motion.

Wilson is no longer the player he once was, but he’s still a future Hall of Famer, and he’s going to have a huge chip on his shoulder.
