There were a flurry of moves on Monday as the new NFL league year approaches, and one big trade agreed to will send star pass rusher Brian Burns from the Carolina Panthers to the New York Giants.

While the Panthers got an underwhelming return of second-round and fifth-round draft picks for him, the Giants are getting a major reinforcement for their front seven.

Josina Anderson of CBS Sports gave Giants GM Joe Schoen some praise for what he gave up in order to get a potential game-changer such as Burns.

Look at the trade compensation here folks. #Giants GM Joe Schoen did a nice job here when you look at the combined value / worth of a 2nd and 2025 5th combined……

Carolina had to come down to get the deal done, since the acquiring team is paying Burns big.

After going 6-11 and missing the playoffs in 2023, the Giants have many needs, including a new one at running back after Saquon Barkley agreed to depart to join the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles.

But perhaps they have built a very solid front seven with the arrival of Burns.

In five pro seasons, he has been named to the Pro Bowl twice while putting up 46.0 sacks, 95 quarterback hits, and 59 tackles for loss.

He will join Pro Bowl defensive end Dexter Lawrence and outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux to give head coach Brian Daboll and new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen another weapon on defense.

Burns was the No. 16 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and he will turn 26 years of age in late April, which means he could become a mainstay in New York for years to come.

The Panthers reportedly had the opportunity to send him to the Los Angeles Rams just prior to the 2022 trade deadline for two first-round draft picks, but they have instead sold low on him to the Giants’ benefit.
