The Kansas City Chiefs entered the offseason with many decisions to make.
They were coming off a Super Bowl victory, which was a positive, but the team had to quickly shift their focus to re-signing key players.
Even though he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, Patrick Mahomes cannot do it alone.
The Chiefs front office understands this, which is why they signed Chris Jones to a five-year contract, guaranteeing him $95 million.
This is a massive investment into their defense, something the Chiefs intended to do heading into the offseason.
James Palmer shared that the team’s general manager, Brett Veach, recently spoke about this contract in a press conference.
“Chris is a Pro Football Hall of Famer and, in our opinion, the best defensive tackle in the National Football League,” Veach said.

Jones has been a staple of the Chiefs’ defense throughout his career, and the team didn’t feel right attempting a three-peat without him.
This accomplishment has never been achieved in league history, and the Chiefs want to ensure they have the best possible players to make a dynastic run like this happen.
With Jones on the defense and Kelce on the offense, this team is on the right foot heading into 2024.
However, many more questions remain to answer, including what the team will do at the receiver position.
Many anticipate the Chiefs to target a receiver in the draft, especially since this year’s free agent class isn’t as strong as others in previous seasons.
Who else will they add in their quest to win three straight Super Bowls?
