The Jacksonville Jaguars got a bit of an insurance policy.
They signed former Buffalo Bills WR Gabe Davis on the first day of free agency, but that doesn’t mean they’re not still interested in bringing Calvin Ridley back.
Now, Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports adds that the New England Patriots will also look to make a run at him, all while a ‘dark horse’ team also joins the race.
Calvin Ridley remains the top free-agent wide receiver on the market. The Jaguars wish to retain him, and the Patriots hope to sign him. Sources say there could be a darkhorse lurking as well. Money will be interesting with a deep draft class at that position coming.

Needless to say, some might think that this is just his camp trying to control the narrative and gain some leverage, as he may not be getting the kind of big-money offers he was looking for when he entered free agency.
The 29-year-old entered the league after a three-year stint with the Alabama Crimson Tide, and while he’s missed plenty of time, he’s still been quite productive when on the field.
He missed most of the 2021 campaign to work on his mental health before being suspended for the entire 2022 campaign because of gambling.
Shortly after, the Atlanta Falcons traded him to the Jaguars, where he hauled in 76 receptions for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns across 17 contests.
He developed a strong on-field rapport with QB Trevor Lawrence, and he’s proven to be a reliable pass-catcher throughout the course of his career.
The former first-round pick might not be the biggest guy on the field or the most athletic wide receiver, but he’s a master at creating separation, and with multiple stars getting the franchise tag, he’s currently the best WR available in free agency.
