After each quarterback’s team decided to move in a different direction this offseason, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson are now both members of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Fields was acquired by the Steelers on Saturday in a trade with the Chicago Bears, and Wilson signed with Pittsburgh last week after he was released by the Denver Broncos.
Each quarterback has his own unique skill set, but they also do some similar things out on the field, as The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen recently pointed out on Twitter.
Justin Fields led the league in longest average time to throw. Coming in at a close second was Russell Wilson.

Nguyen mentioned how Fields led all quarterbacks in the NFL last season in longest average time to throw, and Wilson was right there with him with the second-longest average time to throw in 2023.
Some might think a quarterback having a longer amount of time to throw means that they are playing behind an offensive line that is really good at pass blocking.
However, it typically means that a signal-caller is taking too long to process what is going out on the field in front of him.
Where some quarterbacks like Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins and Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions got the ball out to their receivers almost immediately after they got the snap, Fields and Wilson tended to hold onto the football for too long last season.
Will the Steelers and new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith be able to build a scheme that lowers the average time to throw for Fields or Wilson down to a more average number?
Or will these two quarterbacks continue to struggle with their decision-making in the pocket in 2024?
