All season long, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been called everything from the best player on his team to the future of the league.
JJ Redick is one of the many people who was blown away by Edwards’ massive dunk on Monday night.
On Tuesday’s “First Take,” Redick said that Edwards is a frontrunner to lead the NBA moving forward.
“I think he’s got as good of a chance as any American player to be the face of the NBA,” Redick said.
However, Redick did warn that Edwards will have a ton of very tough competition for that title.

Redick said that other players like Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder are also in the running to lead the league.
Speaking of the Thunder, Redick said that the team is quietly building the “Death Star” in the Western Conference, acquiring a ton of talent and building an intimidating and dominant force that could sit atop the standings for years to come.
Edwards has the talent to reign supreme over the rest of the league but Redick reminded viewers that former NBA leaders, such as Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and others, have done so for years, which is a supremely hard task.
The moment that someone becomes the top talent in the NBA, others immediately target them and try to surpass them.
Redick said that the league is at a transition point with James and Stephen Curry losing prominence.
That means that Edwards has an opening, he just needs to take it.
Redick and plenty of others can clearly see a future with Edwards being the top player in the NBA.
However, other stars will not let him claim that honor without a fight.
