After having a highly successful career with the Cincinnati Bengals as Carson Palmer’s favorite target downfield, Chad Johnson, aka Chad Ochocinco, finished his playing career suiting up for legendary head coach Bill Belichick and the storied New England Patriots franchise.

Although it was a questionable move by the team and the veteran wide receiver, Johnson was thought to be the next Randy Moss for the Patriots, but things definitely didn’t turn out that way.

Johnson started only three games for the Patriots while suiting up for the team 15 times, racking up only 276 receiving yards and one touchdown, which was highly uncharacteristic of the outspoken wideout.

On the “Nightcap” podcast with Shannon Sharpe, Johnson tried to explain how things went wrong for him in New England.

“The Patriot Way, that’s what happened,” Johnson said. They don’t play that s*** over there. You have to suppress yourself. … As much as I wanted to be myself, they had too much going on over there.”

Even though some thought Johnson could be the next Moss in New England, it simply didn’t happen that way, and he played in only one season with the team before calling it a career.

Since then, Johnson has carved out a successful career off the football field and has been able to tell his story in the meantime, which seems to be another negative pointed at Belichick for his unique and unorthodox coaching style.

If Johnson had been able to adjust and play another season in New England, things might’ve ended differently, but as of right now, it seems like a forgettable time in his career.
