Despite the brilliance of rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs have been a terrible team this season, and they have the worst record in the Western Conference at 18-57.
Any hope that they could finish this year on a positive note has now practically vanished, as two of their other key players have been shut down for the duration.
Per Shams Charania, Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan are done for the season because of a stress reaction and ankle surgery, respectively.
Spurs say Devin Vassell (stress reaction in foot) and Jeremy Sochan (ankle surgery) will miss remainder of season.

Other than Wembanyama, Vassell is San Antonio’s best player, and he’s averaging a very strong 19.5 points a game this season.
At age 23, he may be the only other clear keeper on their roster other than the 7-foot-4 French phenom.
Sochan, meanwhile, is putting up 11.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists a game.
The Spurs seemingly have nothing to play for right now other than getting extra ping-pong balls in next month’s draft lottery, which would require them to lose some additional games.
This year’s draft is thought to be a weak one, but perhaps getting the No. 1 or No. 2 pick would net them a legitimate cornerstone to go along with Wembanyama for years to come.
The rookie big man is putting up 21.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.4 blocked shots a game, and over the last three months, he has stepped up his game.
He is coming off two straight 30-point games and three in his last five outings, and on Friday, he exploded for 40 points, 20 rebounds, and seven assists in an overtime win over the New York Knicks.
