Most NBA analysts believe that Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets has the best chance of winning MVP this season, although there is competition for that prize.

Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Justin Termine stated that more people should have Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks in the MVP conversation.

He stated that Doncic’s recent numbers are similar to what Joel Embiid was putting up earlier this season when he was considered the frontrunner for the trophy.

Plus, Termine noted that Doncic is doing that in a “tougher conference.”

“A couple of weeks ago, I’m thinking Luka’s third or fourth. Right now, I have him first or second,” Termine said.

Doncic is indeed having a wonderful stretch of games right now.

He was already leading the league in points, with 34 per game, and has been averaging 30.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 9.8 assists during his last ten games.

Additionally, his Mavericks have been doing wonderfully lately too, and have climbed to the fifth seed in the West, just outside of Play-In range.

Doncic has looked phenomenal all season long, in shape, engaged, and ready to lead his team in ways he hasn’t before.

That could be enough for him to win MVP, something that has eluded him for years.

However, the competition from Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder is pretty tough.

Beyond his MVP chances, the other question about Doncic is how far his Mavericks will be able to go in the playoffs.

They are surging at the right time and their recent string of wins proves that they can compete against a number of teams.

That is great news for a team that missed the playoffs entirely last year.

But with the way that Doncic has been playing lately, fans are expecting a lot from Dallas in the postseason.
