Heading into the 2023 NFL regular season, the Indianapolis Colts were starting a new era, with rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson taking over under center in hopes of the team finally finding their new franchise player to lead the charge.

After years of trying to replace superstar quarterback Andrew Luck under center, the Colts seemed to have finally found his successor, with Richardson looking like one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL.

Unfortunately, Richardson’s style of play made him prone to injury as he eventually was ruled out for the season due to a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery.

With Richardson breathing new life into the Colts franchise and some much-needed hope for the future, Indianapolis has made some solid moves during this NFL offseason, including retaining safety Julian Blackmon on a one-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Blackmon is coming off his best season of four seasons with the Colts, during which he recorded a career-high four interceptions, eight passes defensed, two fumble recoveries, and 65 solo tackles in 15 games.

Bringing back Blackmon is one of a few solid moves the Colts have made this offseason, as they also signed veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to back-up Richardson and re-signed star wide receiver Michael Pittman to be the young quarterback’s top target down the field.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Colts do during the 2024 NFL season, with Richardson expected to return to the field and resume his career while hoping to become the team’s new franchise quarterback.
