On Tuesday night, the San Antonio Spurs and the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets went head-to-head in what was an epic battle between elite big men with two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic going up against superstar rookie Victor Wembanyama.
Even though Jokic is arguably the best player in the league right now on the best team in the NBA, Wembanyama seemed up to the task of facing the veteran superstar, as he put up some monster numbers against the Nuggets.
Wembanyama almost recorded a quadruple-double against the Nuggets, with 23 points, 15 rebounds, nine blocks, and eight assists.
In classic Jokic fashion, the one-time NBA champion also had a great game, with a game-high 42 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks while also coming away with the win.
Despite losing to the Nuggets, Wembanyama really turned some heads with this stellar performance and convinced Dan Patrick that this kid is the next big thing in the NBA, via “The Dan Patrick Show.”
“I would buy stock in Victor Wembanyama because he’s just starting to understand how great he can be, or we’re just starting to understand how great he can be, and you saw that on display last night against Joker,” Patrick said.

Unfortunately for the French phenom, he doesn’t have a lot of talent around him, and the Spurs neglected to bring in a true point guard this season, which has basically derailed his progress.
Hopefully, for the sake of Wembanyama, Gregg Popovich and company will go all out this summer to surround him with more talent and get this team back on track to be a force to be reckoned with in the West once again.
