The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and this class is stacked with talent at the quarterback position.
This class is so stacked that a Heisman trophy finalist like Michael Penix Jr. might fall out of the first round.
Notably, that could be a major mistake.
At least, that’s what former NFL star QB Phil Simms seems to think.
Talking to Pat Leonard, the New York Giants legend claimed that whether a team takes him in the first, second, or third round, he believes he’s going to be in a good position to play.
The great Phil Simms (@PhilSimmsQB) on how Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. will impact the NFL team that drafts him:

He believes that whoever is the starter over him won’t be thrilled to have him on the team, as he can definitely throw the football like the best of them, and it should be just a matter of time before the coaching staff realizes it.
Granted, there are reasons to be worried, given his age and his history of injuries, and he’s not the most mobile guy out there.
But when it comes to passing, Penix might as well be the best quarterback in this class, and that’s a lot to say.
He could thrive in a pass-happy offense, and he’s been free of injuries over the past couple of seasons, so all that might be a thing of the past.
Still, with guys like Bo Nix and J.J. McCarthy also up for grabs after the top-three guys are no longer on the board, he might slip.
