For what has seemed like more than a year, many have assumed former USC quarterback Caleb Williams is going to be selected with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Currently, the Chicago Bears are in possession of the No. 1 selection, and after they recently traded quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, many feel like Williams ending up with the Bears in a few weeks is essentially a guarantee.
As is the case with any top pick in the NFL Draft, Williams is going to be handed a massive amount of expectations as soon as he becomes a member of Chicago’s roster.
Recently, FS1’s Craig Carton shared how he believes the former USC quarterback should be able to lead the Bears to a spot in the playoffs next season if he ends up getting drafted by Chicago (via The Carton Show on Twitter).
“If I’m right about Caleb, the expectation’s gotta be double digit wins and potentially a playoff berth.”

Even for a No. 1 draft pick, those certainly seem like some very high expectations for Williams in his rookie season.
But the Bears are actually coming off of a 2023 campaign in which they won seven games, and during the last few weeks, they’ve added a bunch of new talent to their roster, including running back D’Andre Swift and wide receiver Keenan Allen.
If Williams ends up helping Chicago find their way into the playoffs next season, he would become the first quarterback who was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick to lead his team to the postseason as a rookie since Andrew Luck did it with the Indianapolis Colts back in 2012.
