Despite coming away with victories in each of the last two Super Bowls, the Kansas City Chiefs might be in danger of relocating to a new city.

Recently, a proposed sales tax that would have helped with renovations to the Chiefs’ current stadium was rejected by local voters, and in response, some believe it could result in the franchise leaving Kansas City.

Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t sound like Kansas City wants to lose their NFL franchise anytime soon, as the city’s mayor recently shared a post on his Twitter account expressing his desire to keep the team where they are currently located.

I thank John Sherman of the Royals for a good conversation yesterday afternoon concerning continuing work with Kansas City about the future. We are committed to maintaining the presence of both teams in our community.

Originally, the Chiefs were known as the Dallas Texans from 1960 to 1962.

Then, in 1963, the franchise packed up their bags and headed to Kansas City, where they’ve been ever since.

The Chiefs have always been beloved by their current hometown and their popularity has only grown even more during the last few years as they’ve been able to win multiple Super Bowls.

For some, it’s difficult to understand why a team that has been so successful could potentially leave their home city if they are unable to figure out an agreement to get their stadium renovated, especially since the Chiefs are worth billions of dollars.

Given their worth, it makes many wonder why the team’s ownership can’t just pay for the stadium renovations on their own.

But billionaire owners asking for public funding for their professional sports franchises is something that has gone on for decades, and the Chiefs’ current situation reveals that these requests likely aren’t going to be going away anytime soon.
