The Washington Commanders have the No. 2 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft later this month, and the debate surrounding which player the team should choose has swirled for weeks.

Most signs point to Washington drafting a quarterback as this year’s draft class is stacked at the position.

After signing Marcus Mariota in free agency this offseason to a one-year deal, the Commanders have secured the position for the short run.

Inking Mariota leaves Washington in a perfect position to draft a quarterback with the second overall choice that can join the team and slowly build into a potential franchise star.

The Athletic’s Jeff Howe posted on Twitter on Friday that after talking with multiple team executives, coaches, and scouts from across the NFL, LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels emerged as the player the Commanders are expected to draft in 2024.

The responses saw three different quarterbacks be named: Daniels, UNC’s Drake Maye, and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.

After a 4-13 record led to changing head coaches, the Washington front office decided to part ways with former starting signal-caller Sam Howell.

Now, new head coach Dan Quinn and his front office have a plethora of choices to select from as the next face of the Washington franchise.

Daniels, Maye, and McCarthy are all predicted to be available as Chicago owns the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, and the presumptive choice for that selection is USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

Howe noted that McCarthy’s pro day performance helped the former Wolverine quarterback leap to the top of the quarterback-heavy class.

In his fifth and final collegiate season, Daniels was the 2023 Heisman winner after racking up nearly 5,000 total yards of offense for the Tigers last season.
