The Houston Texans’ running back room is going to look a lot different in 2024 after losing Devin Singletary in free agency and trading for Joe Mixon to replace him.

The RB room overhaul might not stop there, as the draft is right around the corner and the team is reportedly still looking for more help out of the backfield.

According to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson, Kentucky running back Ray Davis just had a visit with the Texans in a pre-draft visit.

The fifth-year senior is coming off a big year in Lexington where he put up 1,129 yards and 14 touchdowns on 199 carries on the ground.

He also caught 33 passes for 323 yards and another seven touchdowns.

Davis played two years at Temple and then two years at Vanderbilt prior to transferring to Kentucky.

At the NFL Combine, Davis ran a 4.52 40-yard dash at 5’8″ and 211 pounds.

Davis is projected to be a late Day 2, perhaps Day 3 pick as he is a high-floor, low-ceiling type of running back and is also already 24 years old.

His efficient, no-nonsense running style would replace Devin Singletary well, and his pass-catching ability is something this team doesn’t currently have on it’s roster from a third-down back, as that is not a huge part of current projected backup Dameon Pierce’s game.

Speaking of Pierce, despite being in the league for two years already, he is still younger than Ray Davis.

Older running back prospects generally don’t get drafted very high, but Davis was productive in college and Houston would be lucky to have him.
