Back in 2014, the San Antonio Spurs made the ground-breaking move to add former WNBA star Becky Hammon to Gregg Popovich’s coaching staff, which seemed strange at first but then became a brilliant move as she went on to be the head coach of the Las Vegas Aces and lead that team to two consecutive WNBA titles.
Many believed that Hammon would become Popovich’s successor in San Antonio and, as a result, be the first woman head coach in the NBA, and even though that may eventually happen with the Spurs, it appears another woman may beat her to that historic milestone.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Lindsey Harding, who is currently the head coach of the G-League’s Stockton Kings, will interview for the coaching vacancy for the Charlotte Hornets, via Legion Hoops.

Recently, Hornets head coach Steve Clifford let it be known that he intends to step down after the 2023-24 NBA season comes to a close for Charlotte, which will be very soon with the team being eliminated from playoff contention in the Eastern Conference.
As a result, there will be an opening in Charlotte with the struggling franchise having the opportunity to make NBA history by hiring the first woman head coach, but it remains to be seen whether that will come to fruition, as the team will likely do its due diligence in its coaching search.
Harding was recently named NBA G-League Coach of the Year as she continues to prove her worth as a basketball coach on the highest level.
