Former Pro-Bowler Explains What 49ers Are Missing When Facing The Chiefs

This past year’s matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers proved to be worth the hype.

It was a back-and-forth battle, but for the second time in the past five seasons, the Chiefs beat the 49ers in this game.

The 49ers have been one of the NFL’s best regular season teams over the past several years, but they have continued to fall short in the playoffs, especially against the Chiefs.

Donte Whitner recently appeared on the Up & Adams show, where he talked about the 49ers’ biggest problems in big moments.

“I would say 85 percent of it is mental for the 49ers when it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Whitner said.

Whitner seems to believe that the Chiefs have more mental toughness than the 49ers, which is why they have reigned victorious in these situations.

A positive thing for this roster is that they now have a lot of experience playing together, which should bode well for them moving forward.

Brock Purdy will enter his third NFL season in 2024, which is typically a time when quarterbacks find their footing in the league.

Purdy continues to impress his teammates and the 49ers’ front office, and if he takes another step forward next season, there’s no telling how high the 49ers’ ceiling will be throughout his career.
