Not many rookie quarterbacks find success right away in the NFL.

It’s more usual to see guys struggle early and blossom later, like Peyton Manning, or guys who spend years on the sidelines before being given a chance, like Aaron Rodgers.

Even so, there are high expectations that come with being the No. 1 pick, and Bryce Young wasn’t the exception to that trend.

Despite some concerns about his small frame, the Alabama standout was the consensus No. 1 selection for most of the process, and the Carolina Panthers traded many assets to get him.

His rookie season was fairly disappointing, but it’s not like he was put in a position to succeed, either.

With that in mind, NFL veteran QB Andy Dalton predicts he’ll fare much better in his sophomore year.

Talking on The Jim Rome Show, Dalton talked about all the things and in-season changes he had to go through after the Panthers fired Frank Reich, adding that the organization has made some positive changes that’ll make his job and life easier (via Around the NFL):

“Yeah, I thought he handled it well,” Dalton said. “You know, he’s never in his life had a season like that and had to handle the adversity that he had to deal with. It was a tough year. And then you throw in losing your head coach after 11 games and changes on offense all the things that went into it, it was tough. So I think for him, I thought he handled it well, and I kept telling him, just stay the course.”

The Panthers hired Dave Canales to be their next head coach, and he has had success with struggling quarterbacks in the past.

Young barely had time or space to operate with, and his receiving corps was subpar, to say the least.

Hopefully, a revamped roster and an offensive-minded coach looking to work with him closely and develop him will be enough for him to show glimpses of the dominant and intelligent player he was at Alabama.
