The Boston Celtics are the best team in the NBA but they were easily dismantled by the New York Knicks on Thursday night.

When it was over, the Celtics lost, 118-109, to the Knicks just days before the start of the playoffs.

In the final moments of the game, Celtics fans showered their own team in boos, a strong sign of just how much they disapproved of their performance.

Speaking to NBC Sports Boston afterward, Kristaps Porzingis said he understood why they heard those boos.

“We got booed at the end for a reason. This is not the team our fans love,” he said.

It wasn’t a great night for any Celtics player.

Porzingis posted 14 points and 8 rebounds, while Jaylen Brown and Sam Hauser scored 15.

Payton Pritchard scored 16 points, while Jayson Tatum led all Boston players with 18.

All of the starters had negative plus-minus scores and the team never got a handle on the game.

Even though they brought things a bit closer toward the end of the game, it wasn’t enough and the Knicks earned a rather easy victory.

This was definitely not what fans wanted to see because the postseason is now just days away.

The Celtics are the clear favorite in the Eastern Conference and many people also think they have the best shot of winning the Finals this year.

But that won’t happen if they look completely lacking as they did on Thursday night.

If the Celtics end up falling short of sky-high expectations, it’ll be seen as a huge disappointment.

The playoffs could be shockingly short if the Celtics have a few more games like the one they had on Thursday night.
