On Thursday’s “Inside The NBA,” the hosts of the show were talking about the upcoming First Team All-NBA and who they would select to be honored with a spot.

When asked, Kenny Smith surprised Shaquille O’Neal, Ernie Johnson, and Charles Barkley by saying he would pick Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves over Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks.

He also said he would pick Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the team over Doncic.

This statement from Smith shows just how great a season Edwards has had.

In 2023-24, he has posted an average of 26.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists on 46.2% from the field.

This has been the greatest years of Edwards’ young career and it has gained the attention of many fans, even those outside of Minnesota.

The Timberwolves, unsurprisingly, have had a wonderful season too, and are currently the second-best team in the West, poised for a strong playoff run for the first time in years.

Edwards has already earned an All-Star appearance this year, but will he also get a spot on First Team All-NBA?

Regardless of how it goes, he has risen to a new level this season and will be impossible to ignore in the years ahead.

There are numerous talented stars in the league right now who will be competing for their spots on an All-NBA team but Edwards’ name has definitely climbed to the top of the heap.

The fact that Smith quickly chose Edwards over Doncic and others really does show his progress this year.

In the weeks ahead, Edwards will be focused on trying to earn something more important than a spot on an All-NBA team.

He will be trying to win his first championship.
