Before reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid suffered a knee injury that required surgery, the Philadelphia 76ers were one of the best teams in the league and well on their way to securing one of the top seeds in the Eastern Conference.
Unfortunately, without Embiid on the basketball floor, the 76ers were not the same team as Tyrese Maxey could only do so much to keep this team firing on all cylinders and on pace to have a high seed in the East during the NBA playoffs.
Although the damage has already been done, with Philadelphia likely needing to get through the Play-In Tournament to make the postseason, Embiid is back in the fold and could help the 76ers become a force to be reckoned with once again this season.
If the 76ers do end up flaming out earlier than expected this year, the team will seemingly put all of its efforts into landing star forward Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers in NBA free agency this summer, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer via Legion Hoops.
REPORT: The Sixers are expected to make Paul George their “top target” this offseason, if he declines his $48.8M option with the Clippers.

At this point in time, it is uncertain whether George is determined to return to the Clippers on a new lucrative long-term deal or if he’s open to leaving to join another talented team like the 76ers.
The addition of George would instantly make the 76ers one of the most talented teams in the league on paper, with a new three-headed monster forming in Philadelphia, which might be able to contend with the star-studded Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics.
