Steelers Are Reportedly ‘Having Discussions’ About WR Trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new-look quarterback room.

Russell Wilson is expected to be the starter over Justin Fields, but it’ll be a head-to-head competition throughout the course of the season.

They already have a clear-cut WR1 in George Pickens, and TE Pat Freiermuth has proven to be a reliable pass-catcher when healthy.

Then again, there’s a bit of a drop-off in talent after that, and the Steelers being the Steelers, they’re not likely to address their need for depth at wide receiver early in the NFL Draft.

With that in mind, they could look to solve that issue with a trade.

According to a report by Steelers insider Andrew Fillipponi, the team is currently having internal discussions about potentially making a move for Tee Higgins.

Sources: The Steelers have had internal discussions about trading for Bengals WR Tee Higgins. They love the player. But there’s questions about acquisition cost and his next contract cost. Plus there’s the issue of the Bengals trading him in the AFC North. pic.twitter.com/i3yylwhYon

Unsurprisingly, Fillipponi also states that there are some concerns about his potential trade value and the fact that he’s about to sign a big-money deal.

More than that, there’s obviously a bit of a roadblock as well, as the Cincinnati Bengals might not be interested in trading him to a divisional rival.

The AFC North Division is one of the toughest divisions in the game, and no one will want to give a rival an edge in this race.

Higgins is a talented wideout with star potential, and he could be a solid No. 1 option in Pittsburgh, even ahead of Pickens.

Still, it seems like, as of now, the Bengals continue to play the waiting game, and they want to convince him to stay in town for a little longer.
