The Philadelphia 76ers keep making moves ahead of the start of the playoffs.

This time, however, they didn’t need to look far to find a reinforcement.

According to a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, they’re now expected to convert Ricky Council IV’s contract into a standard deal.

He’s now going to make $7.4 million over the next four years, adding over $860,000 in new money for this campaign.

That’s why Sixers star Tyrese Maxey took to Twitter to congratulate him about that, making it loud and clear that this contract and opportunity were earned, not given.

An undrafted rookie out of Arkansas, Council has made 31 appearances for Nick Nurse’s side.

Nurse has plenty of experience and success with G-League and undrafted players, so this isn’t exactly a big surprise.

In just under ten minutes per game, he’s averaged 5.5 points per contest on 48% from the floor and 36% from beyond the arc.

He’s spent most of his minutes playing for the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers’ G-League affiliate.

The Sixers needed to sign him by Sunday for him to become eligible for the playoffs, and while he’s not likely to be on the floor for heavy minutes, it’s clear that he’s made a positive impression on Nick Nurse’s team and coaching staff.
