‘Sleeper’ QB Prospect Reportedly Underwent Ankle Procedure

The 2024 NFL Draft class is loaded with talent at the quarterback position, with as many as six quarterbacks possibly going in the first round and four in the top six.

With so much talent at the top, it’s hard to find room to study the under-the-radar talents who could make a difference on Day 2 or Day 3 of the draft.

One prospect looking to make some noise is NC Central QB Davius Richard, who according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero recently underwent an ankle procedure to fix the dislocated ankle he suffered in the HBCU Legacy Bowl.

Richard underwent a nonsurgical procedure and is expected to be ready for training camp.

Despite the injury, Richard still won offensive MVP in the game after putting up 262 yards through the air with one touchdown and one pick to go along with 51 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Richard put up some gaudy numbers at NC Central with 73 touchdowns and 29 interceptions in his four years as the starting quarterback, as well as an eye-popping 44 rushing touchdowns.

Richard is 6’2″ and 220 pounds and has electric ability as a dual-threat QB.

He has no chance of leapfrogging some of the top names in this class like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels, but Richard will certainly get a look sometime in Day 2 or Day 3 as a project quarterback with high upside due to his athleticism.

The last HBCU quarterback drafted in the NFL was Tarvaris Jackson out of Alabama State 18 years ago by the Minnesota Vikings.
