The San Antonio Spurs found a generational building block.
Victor Wembanyama has proven to be as good as scouts said, and it didn’t take long before he made an impact.
His offense looks ahead of schedule, especially his shooting stroke from beyond the arc, but his defense is already elite.
He’s a strong candidate for both Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, and he’s leading the league in both blocks per game and defensive rating.
As a matter of fact, Wembanyama has been so dominant as a rim protector that he’s actually averaged more blocks per game (3.6) than the entire Miami Heat team (3.5), according to The Score (Via Legion Hoops).

With one game left in the regular season, Wembanyama has 65 more blocks (254) than Chet Holmgren (189), the player with the second-most blocks in the league this year.
He’s already posted a game with double digits in blocks, and he looks like the next player who could record a quadruple-double.
Wembanyama’s defensive presence literally alters everything around him, with players second-guessing and looking behind their backs before attempting wide-open layups.
His long arms and lateral quickness make him a nightmare on the defensive end of the floor, and he’s been able to hold his own on the perimeter against smaller and quicker players as well.
We’re witnessing something special and unique, and even non-Spurs fans hope he can stay healthy to see how great a player he can become, as he has the potential to be the greatest to ever do it.
