It came all the way down to the last day of the 2023-24 NBA regular season in order for the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference to be set, with some interesting changes to the seeding in the conference ahead of the Play-In Tournament and the NBA playoffs to follow.
Perhaps the most significant jump in the East is the New York Knicks leaping the Milwaukee Bucks for the second seed in the conference, while the Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat will have to settle for spots in the Play-In Tournament in order to earn a playoff berth.
With the Knicks jumping to the second seed, New York will have to wait to see who their first-round opponent will be, which might end up being Miami or Philadelphia, and that would be an epic start to the postseason for Jalen Brunson and company.

As expected, the Boston Celtics have the top seed in the East and will also await their opponent, which could be Miami, Philadelphia, the Atlanta Hawks, or the Chicago Bulls.
The Knicks come in at No. 2, followed by the Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, and Indiana Pacers rounding up the top six.
Unlike the Western Conference, which has been incredibly competitive this season with a lot of talented teams, the East could end up going chalk, as it doesn’t seem like there’s a team in the conference that can beat the Celtics in a seven-game series after they dominated the competition in the regular season.
However, anything can happen in the postseason, which the Heat proved last year by going from the Play-In Tournament to the NBA Finals, pulling off upset after upset throughout the playoffs.
