The Los Angeles Lakers wanted to end the 2023-24 NBA season on a high note and they did exactly that on Sunday afternoon.
They took down the New Orleans Pelicans, 124-108, giving them the eighth seed in the West and a ticket to the Play-In Tournament.
On Monday’s “Undisputed,” Skip Bayless spoke about how impressed he was by the Lakers.
“This looked like the best team I’ve seen all year,” he said, noting how LeBron James stepped up and shut down Zion Williamson, while the rest of the Pelicans team wasn’t able to get past the Lakers.
The Lakers dominated in a way I haven’t seen many teams dominate all year, including the Celtics. LeBron said “OK, watch this.” https://t.co/3dHCLJGnp7

This was clearly a very important game for the Lakers, who were struggling to stay ahead of the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors in Play-In contention.
By achieving their last few wins, they stand just one victory away from scoring the seventh seed in the Western Conference.
The way they played on Sunday showed that they still have a lot of fight and basketball IQ in them, despite some of the problems they have suffered all season long.
But now the Lakers will have a difficult problem: beating the Pelicans again on Tuesday night.
They have to face New Orleans in the first game of the Play-In Tournament and Williamson and his team might be in much better shape, especially after Sunday’s defeat.
If the Lakers are able to overcome the Pelicans one more time, they will enter the playoffs.
Of course, they would then have to play the reigning champion Denver Nuggets in the first round, another incredibly tough challenge.
But the Lakers are going to just take things one game at a time.
That is what they did on Sunday and it worked out very well for them.
