On Tuesday night, the New Orleans Pelicans had an opportunity to advance to the first round of the NBA playoffs, with the team needing to beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the first game of the Play-In Tournament.

Even though the team was coming off a blowout loss to the Lakers, the Pelicans came to play on Tuesday, with star forward Zion Williamson having one of the best games of his NBA career.

Williamson was relentless in his drives to the basket on Tuesday, with the Lakers having no answer for the former No. 1 overall pick, as he scored at will on his way to recording 40 points, along with 11 rebounds and five assists.

Unfortunately for Williamson, the Pelicans lost against the Lakers, forcing them to play a win-or-go-home scenario against the Sacramento Kings, and he suffered a hamstring injury which will keep him off the basketball floor for that game.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Williamson will miss the matchup with the Kings along with the first round of the playoffs against the Oklahoma City Thunder if they advance, via NBA on ESPN.

Without Williamson, the Pelicans’ chances of advancing to the first round and having a chance against the top-seeded Thunder drop considerably, as the season may very well be over now for New Orleans without their star forward.

However, New Orleans still has some hope that Brandon Ingram can lead this team to victory later this week against the Kings and give an inexperienced Thunder squad a run for their money in the first round.
