With USC’s Caleb Williams expected to go No. 1 overall in next week’s NFL Draft, the focus now turns to what the Washington Commanders will do with the No. 2 overall pick.
The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner in LSU’s Jayden Daniels is believed to be the favorite to go to the Commanders at No. 2 despite his odds drooping a little bit.
However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Daniels might not want to play for the Commanders (via The Purple Persuasion).
Per @AdamSchefter, Jayden Daniels may not want to play for the #Commanders
Could a team like the #Vikings swoop in?
“It feels like Jayden Daniels has an interest in being other places… We’ll see what the Washington Commanders do with that information”

This news comes after Daniels and his agent were reportedly unhappy with Washington’s idea of a top-30 visit where they also brought in top prospects like Drake Maye, J.J. McCarthy, and Michael Penix Jr. at the same time.
In situations like this, it all comes down to what the organization wants to do.
If Daniels truly doesn’t want to play for Washington, like Schefter said, he has other teams that are potentially interested in him.
But it all comes down to whether or not the organization truly wants to take somebody else.
With Drake Maye’s stock going up and his odds of being drafted at No. 2 increasing, along with Washington bringing him in on the same top-30 visit, it is clear that the Commanders have real interest in him too.
Now, they could always trade back with a quarterback-needy team like the Raiders, who are coached by one of Daniels’ former college coaches in Antonio Pierce.
But in the end, this could all be speculation.
After all, it is draft season, and nobody truly knows what is going on until it becomes set in stone.
