The Dallas Cowboys seem to be in a holding pattern right now.

Despite yet another playoff collapse, this time in the wild-card round against the Green Bay Packers, they had made no significant offseason additions or improvements, while they have lost running back Tony Pollard, offensive tackle Tyron Smith, and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

The team is saving money in order to give contract extensions to quarterback Dak Prescott, pass rusher Micah Parsons and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and so far, they haven’t managed to create much salary cap space for them.

Lamb isn’t participating in Dallas’ spring workouts while waiting for his extension, but Prescott is confident they will find a way to have Lamb put in the work he needs, per Michael Gehlken.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott said he’s kept in contact with WR CeeDee Lamb, who is not participating in team’s spring workout program while awaiting new contract. “I guarantee that we’ll still find a lot of time to make sure that we’re putting in the work that we feel comfortable.” pic.twitter.com/nImcxdUb8P

In his four NFL seasons, Lamb has gradually become one of the five best wideouts in the game, and in 2023, he collected a league-high 135 receptions while posting 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He will likely demand a huge amount of money to stay in Dallas, and based on his production, he will probably deserve every penny he asks for.

The Cowboys are in a difficult place, as they have immense talent, but will have difficulty keeping all of it in the fold, and they also have some needs right now.

Their biggest need is perhaps a competent running back, as well as help on their offensive line and on their front seven defensively.

A team in this type of situation needs to draft very well in order to have key contributors on inexpensive rookie contracts, and the Cowboys will have seven picks in next week’s draft, starting with the No. 24 selection.
