For most of the NFL Draft process, experts and fans have had three quarterbacks going with the first three picks, which isn’t so common.

Now, over the past couple of weeks, J.J. McCarthy has joined the likes of Caleb Williams, Jayen Daniels, and Drake Maye as potential top-four selections.

Notably, Bo Nix was also expected to be taken in the first round, with the jury still being out on Michael Penix Jr.

However, a report by Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk states that some around league circles now believe Nix could fall out of the first round completely, with Penix shockingly climbing all the way to the top half:

“It’s widely regarded as a given that four quarterbacks will be taken in round one, possibly in the top 10: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, J.J. McCarthy, and Drake Maye. There’s a growing belief that Bo Nix will slide out of the round completely,” Florio wrote.  Where does Michael Penix Jr. fit in this picture? Some regard his draft placement and destination as a mystery. Others believe he’ll be taken in the top half of the round.”

Nix has drawn mixed reviews throughout the course of his collegiate career, and while he’s improved constantly, he’s not particularly young, and some fear he might be a finished product already.

As for Penix Jr., injuries and his age were major concerns leading to the draft process, but the tape is simply remarkable.

Despite some clear and understandable red flags, he’s just too talented to ignore.

Penix Jr. had a Heisman-caliber season in Washington, and he might even have the best arm of all quarterbacks entering this class, so he could be worth the risk.

Also, with so many quarterback-needy teams, not all of them will be able to trade up and get their hands on one of the top-tier prospects.

Once again, it’s not about where you get picked in the draft as much as it’s about what you do with the chances you’re given.
