It’s been a while since the New England Patriots had a good quarterback behind center.

Cam Newton wasn’t the player he used to be when he arrived in Foxboro, and Mac Jones’ run was short-lived.

With that in mind, and now that Jones is out of Foxboro, they want to start the Jerod Mayo era on the right foot.

According to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Pats are heavily expected to use their No. 3 pick to land a new gunslinger (via Los Pats Talks).

“Certainly they’re prepared to take a quarterback… They have a high grade on Jayden Daniels… Drake Maye too, they’re high on,” Fowler said.

While they have gotten some calls about potentially trading down, he argues that they haven’t gotten an offer that has made them even consider doing so.

They’re currently open for business, but they also have high grades for Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye.

And with Daniels most likely going No. 2 to the Washington Commanders, the common feeling around the league is that they’re going to go with the UNC product.

For months, Maye has been considered one of the most talented and physically gifted quarterbacks in this class, although there are some concerns about his mechanics.

Most analysts agree that Maye would benefit from spending one year on the sidelines and getting to learn behind a veteran quarterback, which is something they could do with Jacoby Brissett in town.

Whether that’s the case or not remains to be seen, but barring a major turn of events, it seems like the Patriots are ready to give it another shot at finding Tom Brady’s successor.
