The Atlanta Hawks need to make a decision and take a change of direction.
On paper, adding Dejounte Murray next to Trae Young was a perfect plan.
One was an elite backcourt defender, the other not so much.
One was a three-level shooter, and the other did most of his damage in the restricted area, and both were savvy and willing passers and playmakers.
Fast forward to today, and it’s become painfully evident that they cannot coexist.
The team fared much better when one or the other was playing.
Now, it seems like the team is leaning towards moving on from Young.
Recently, Kurt Helin of Basketball Talk reported that Young is most likely going to get traded (Via NBA Central).
Around the NBA, there is an expectation that the Hawks will trade Trae Young this summer, per @basketballtalk
“They are going to try hard to trade Trae Young. That’s going to happen.”

Young is one of the most electric passers and explosive scorers in the game, and he’s put up some video game-like numbers since he entered the league.
Then again, despite clearly having the clutch gene, he’s also struggled to embrace a leadership role, and there have been multiple reports of him rubbing his teammates and the organization the wrong way, not to mention his efficiency and turnover issues.
Given his youth and upside, there should be multiple teams lining up to make him an offer, and if the Hawks are hard-pressed to move him, they should also be motivated to find a deal.
Needless to say, the Hawks will be under a lot of pressure to deliver after moving him, and a lot of people could lose their jobs if they don’t get it right.
