Even though some players have never won an NBA championship or even gotten far in the playoffs, they have the undisputed respect of their peers.

It’s not easy to stand out in the NBA, let alone be considered a star.

On the flip side, it seems like some players will never get any love or recognition; it doesn’t matter how much money they make or how many accolades they achieve.

That seems to be the case with Rudy Gobert.

As shown by a survey conducted by The Athletic, up to 13% of the surveyed players believe the Minnesota Timberwolves big man to be the most overrated player in the game.

After talking to NBA players, one thing is clear.

There’s just something about Rudy Gobert’s game that his peers don’t like.

This isn’t anything new.

Shaquille O’Neal has repeatedly made fun of him and his big contract, all while Draymond Green went on record to call him soft.

Gobert has been mocked and ridiculed multiple times.

He’s also been heavily criticized for being exposed in the playoffs and not being able to close out games or guard on the perimeter.

He’s made a lot of money in his career, way more than the average big man with no offensive game whatsoever, and the Timberwolves were under heavy fire for giving up so much to get him.

Even so, he’s one of the best rebounders and rim protectors in the game, and he could be one of just three players to win four Defensive Player of the Year awards, so perhaps he’s not as bad as other players think he is.
