The Pittsburgh Steelers desperately needed an upgrade at the most crucial position.

Their quarterback room of Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Kenny Pickett was either the worst or second-worst in the league, yet they still managed to make the playoffs.

One could only assume that a new offensive coordinator and even a slight improvement at quarterback could make them Super Bowl contenders.

With that in mind, they cleaned house and went with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields instead.

Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean they’re done adding bodies to that room.

According to GM Omar Khan, the Steelers could definitely take another quarterback in the upcoming edition of the NFL Draft (via Around the NFL).

Then again, he did rule out the possibility of drafting a quarterback in the first round:

“I think it’s not realistic that we’ll be taking a quarterback in Round 1, if that’s what you’re asking, no,” Khan said. “There are some good players there, and I wouldn’t close the door on anything. If there’s an opportunity to improve that room, obviously, we’ll look at it, but like you said, we’ve got three guys who are on one-year deals and we have to be open to it.”

The Steelers will be on the clock at No. 20, so perhaps they could’ve taken Washington star Michael Penix Jr., who’s currently projected to be a late-first or early-second round selection.

Whatever the case, the QB competition will be an interesting storyline to follow.

Russell Wilson is reportedly in line to be the starter, but Justin Fields is younger, has a higher upside at this point in his career, and they only have one year to evaluate him as a potential franchise quarterback, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see him take the field at some point.
